Dong Nai province: campaign to prevent the transmission of HIV from a mother to a child deployed

On the morning of August, 25th, 2009, Dong Nai Department of Health in combination with HIV/AIDS Prevention Center held a conference for deploying the campaign month of preventing the transmission of HIV from mother to child, which was chaired by Dr. Luong Van Nga – The Deputy Director of Dong Nai Health Department.

Carrying out
the official document No. 3838/UBQG50 on launching a campaign to prevent the
transmission of HIV from mother to child adopted by the National Committee for
AIDS, drug, and prostitution prevention, in order to control the rate of
children’s infection with HIV from their mothers, Dong Nai Department of Health
coordinated with HIV/AIDS Prevention Center implemented a campaign to prevent
the transmission of HIV from mother to child from September 1st 2009
to September 30th 2009 all over Dong Nai province with the theme of
“For HIV-uninfected children”.
The goal of
the campaign is 90% of pregnant women are given advice on HIV/AIDS; 60% of them
are consulted and encouraged to test HIV voluntarily; 100% of HIV infected
pregnant women and their children can be exposed to mother-to-child transmission
prevention service; 90% of HIV infected mothers and their children are directly
monitored after birth. Addressing at the conference, Dr. Luong Van Nga – The
Deputy Director of Dong Nai Health Department said that the deployment of the
campaign to prevent the transmission of HIV from mother to child was an urgent
task, thus the assigned units with all involved agencies had to quickly realize
the campaign in the most effective way.
