Plans for Epidemic Prevention and Control Later This Year Made

HFMD and dengue fever epidemic have gone complicated. The diseases have increasingly grown and widely spread. In order to cope with the situation, the Provincial Steering Committee of Dangerous Disease Prevention has made plans for fighting against the epidemic in the last months of 2011.

TAs reported by the Provincial Center for Preventive Medicine, by the end of September, the province has found more than 5,000 cases of HFMD, which 22 deaths. Whereas, it said, dengue fever was getting more complicated, noting that more than 3,000 cases were found, leading to five deaths. Dengue fever occurs all year round, with higher rate in rainy season, infecting both children and adults. As noted, the disease circulates in multiple types of viruses. The disease is now breaking out and widespread in the southern provinces, including Dong Nai. According to epidemic forecast, the HFMD and dengue fever will continue their complexity. So as to control the situation, the committee calls for the active involvement of departments, sectors, local authorities and organizations in the battle against the epidemic.

With the guideline “drastic – synchronous – effective”, the goals set are to shrink down the number of HFMD and dengue cases and stemp out the diseases across the province by the end of the year; lower the rate of deaths of HFMD and dengue; raise public awareness about epidemic prevention; keep 100% of kindergartens, preschools and nurseries disinfected with Chloramines B and 100% families with under-six child supplied with Chloramines B, and knowledge of how to disinfect their house and suroundings with other common solutions; make sure that the campgaigns of mosquito larva killing and environment sanition get effective to combat dengue fever and other mosquito-driven diseases.

For the best implementation of the plans and meeting the goals, the committee has also proposed certain specific solutions, urging the common efforts of Party, Government, organizations and locals; enhanced propaganda variety is necessary, noted Nguyen Thanh Tri, vice chairperson of the Provincial People's Committee. Much attention should be paid to workers in the industrial parks and teachers and baby-sits in the kindergartens and nurseries.

VFostering the precautionary measures and treatment plays a role as well. Disinfection in kindergartens, preschools, nurseries and households has lately been conducted zealously. In addition, medical centers already started the campaign of mosquito and larva killing in combination with holding training courses on epidemic prevention for local health workers and family-planning collaborators.

Dr. Huynh Minh Hoan, Director of Health Department also said in terms of treatment of, health care facilities in the province should prepare adequate medicine supplies, chemicals and equipments for the treatment, and hold regimen training, ready for receiving and curing the infected and preventing the disease from spreading as it would be found.
