Currently, Phu Ly commune has 2,994 households, 13,816 household members and 10
ethnic groups. The Chau Ro ethnic community (with 144 households and 631
household members) forms the majority of the population. They settle mainly in
Ly Lich 1 hamlet. This is the hamlet where power systems, road links, schools,
stations, running water systems and public housing have been built by local
authorities. Ly Lich 1 hamlet obtained a VND7 billion grant for the building of
the ethnic minority village for a sustainable development in 2005 and it has
received a VND3 billion grant from the provincial People’s Committee for the
building of the Long House recently. Most households in the hamlet have been
granted loans, supplied with technical instructions and provided with
employment. Tens of students in the hamlet have passed the entrance exam into
universities and colleges. The youth here have got vocational training. In
addition, political and social organizations have been established here. Every
year the hamlet clinches the title “Clean and Strong”.
In the survey,
Mr. Nguyen Phu Binh said that the Party Committees of all levels and local
authorities have followed closely the policies of the Party and the State on
ethnic minority affairs. He suggested that the commune should promote its ethnic
identities and seek for solutions to bring the ethnic people a more stable life
on their own land.
