The Summer 2010 Voluntary Youth
Campaign, “Voluntary youth together with poor communes overcome poverty”,
attracted more than 6,000 young volunteers from 20 universities, colleges,
vocational high schools and armed forces based in Dong Nai.
In three months to launch the
campaign, levels of Youth Union have appealed for donations towards the building
and repairs of five houses of compassion and gratitude worth over VND100 million
(US$5,237), presenting organizations with fifty computers, collecting more than
seven tons of waste, having 88 kilometers of sewage systems and inter-field
canals dredged, having 158 kilometers of rural road systems upgraded and built
and planting 1,500 green trees.
In addition, voluntary youth
forces donated 797 units of blood, giving free health check-ups and drugs to
people which cost VND200 million (US$10,474) and visiting and presenting
families who are government-policy beneficiaries, Vietnamese heroic mothers and
underprivileged families with 1,500 gifts.
Also, they solicited more than
VND300 million (15,711US$) in donations spent on 2,250 gifts, 150
scholarships, 10,000 notebooks, 1,500 pens, learning materials and 17 bikes for
underprivileged children in far-flung areas...
At the summation meeting, the
standing committee of Dong Nai Youth Union awarded certificates of merit to 15
collectives and 13 individuals with great achievements in the Summer 2010
Voluntary Youth Campaign.
