Reporting on scientific and technological activities in 2010, Pham Van Sang-Director of DOST affirmed that they would continue to be promoted and developed more comprehensively than previous years to contribute to the cause of industrialization and modernization and accomplishment of missions and targets of socio-economic development plans; development of scientific and technological potentials had been boosted with conducting projects such as ones to found and construct hitech zones specializing in biotech, ones on information network from the department to districts, ones to build provincial center for measurement and metrology, ones on lightning strike prevention, etc; DOST’s human resources had developed in terms of quantity and quality; development of scientific and technological market had been boosted; managing, studying and applying scientific and technological deployment had got positive results with carrying out 14 scientific and technological research subjects, through them to apply advances in science and technology in changes of production structure and raise productivity in fields; study and applications of subjects and projects in agricultural and rural areas had been concentrated; quality, competitiveness of agricultural products and goods of localities had been raised; scientific and technological activities of district level had got progresses; movements of public involved in science and technology had developed extensively, in which movements of scientific and technological contests had been maintained and launched extensively across the province and subjects and fields would be increased; source of scientific and technological information had been maintained and stimulated, etc.
Addressing with directions at the meeting, Tran Van Vinh-Vice Chairperson of the provincial People’s Committee assessed that, in the previous year, DOST had fulfilled its duties and enabled progresses in science and technology of district level; scientific and technological activities had been more and more practical. He also requested the department to evaluate subjects in the past and coming time, study Resolutions of the ninth provincial Party Congress to come up with effective plans and solutions, focus on studying highly applicable subjects especially for fields like agriculture, environmental resources, health, trade-industry, information-communications and concentrate and give priority over expenses for highly applicable and practical subjects and projects, stimulate cooperation of institutes, schools, enterprises as well as departments, branches localities to enhance scientific and technological activity more and more.
