Cho Ro ethnic group’s Long House in Phu Ly

Cho Ro ethnic group’s Long House in Phu Ly (which started its construction in December, 2008) is the project to welcome the 310th anniversary of Bien Hoa - Dong Nai. The construction work has been finished and the display of historical objects is being prepared. The classes teaching how to use gongs have been given to Cho Ro ethnic group’s children. The inauguration ceremony will take place with ethnic groups’ rituals: burning incense, putting up bamboo sticks, entering the new house and so on in accordance with their custom. Before the ceremony, there will be culinary activities such as grinding cake, grinding rice, cooking rice, cooking “xoi cu nan” – sticky rice cooked with dioscorea tubers (family dioscoreaceae), grilling “la bep”- a type of wild vegetables, drinking “ruou can” – wine drunk from jars through pipes and other music activities: gong performance, folk song singing and traditional dance performance.

On this occasion, the provincial People’s Committee will officially offer Cho Ro ethnic group in Phu Ly two sets of gongs for display in the Long House. After being brought into operation, the House not only restores traditional cultural values and activities of Cho Ro ethnic groups but is one of the highlights of the cultural ecotourist system of Vinh Cuu district.
