Dr. Dao Van Dung is delivering a speech at the working session |
Dong Nai’s report shows that Dong
Nai has a large migrant population due to its huge demand for development and
workers.
From 1999 to 2009, Dong Nai’s
population rose by 50,000 people on average annually.
Apart from the positive impacts
to Dong Nai’s socio-economic development, migration has caused difficulties and
social evils for the province.
Besides migration, gender
imbalance is a considerable concern.
The population census on April 1,
2009 indicates that males account for 49.6 percent while females account for
50.4 percent.
Addressing the meeting, Prof. Dr.
Dao Van Dung noted that Dong Nai ought to maintain a reasonable birth rate and
better offer guidelines on gender imbalance at birth.
Dong Nai also needs to conduct a
study on migration and sex to seek for workable solutions, to find out solutions
to problems concerning gender at birth, to invest heavily in the health system
for a better care of people’s reproductive health, to strengthen statistical
work, to realease more accurate and reliable reports as a basis and to make
plans for the province’s development, Dung continued.
In addition, it is necessary that
inter-sector collaboration be promoted to develop propaganda and to raise
people’s awareness in each sector, each organization and each union.
On the morning of November 11,
the delegation will continue its working sessions with Thanh Phu commune in Vinh
Cuu district to get a better understanding of the above-mentioned issues.
