The management of exploitation of mineral resources is put into order
Mineral resources in Dong Nai province mainly are building materials such as:
building stone, sand, clay for production of hard-burnt tiles and bricks,
puzzolane, and peat coal, etc. After 3 years of implementing the plan of mineral
exploitation and processing in the 2006-2008 period”, Dong Nai People’s
Committee granted the mineral survey license to 1,777.53ha in such areas as Long
Thanh, Vinh Cuu, Trang Bom, Thong Nhat, Long Khanh Town and Bien Hoa City.
Thanks to better management task of mineral resources, the mineral explotation
and processing activities has been gradually put into order, meeting the current
demand and stabilizing the supply of mineral resources for the period after
2010. However, there were some shortcomings in implementing the mineral planning
in 2006, for example, some mines of mineral resources were exploited but have
not been put out of the planning to be used for other purposes. In general,
“adjusting and subplementing the planning of mineral exploitation and processing
until 2010 and a vision toward 2020” made by Dong Nai Department of Natural
Resources and Environment basically met the demand of mineral exploitation and
processing in the upcoming time.

More new mines
The
goal of this project is to put mines of mineral resources out of the planning
after finishing exploitation. At the same time, the planning have to be
supplemented some areas that is expected to survey, and the planning period in
some areas have to be adjusted suitably to meet the demand of socio-economic
development. Remarkably, all quarries in Bien Hoa City will be closed to change
the using purpose by 2010.
Accordingly, some areas being added to mineral exploitation planning toward 2010
include Gia Ranh commune (Dinh Quan District) with the area of 14.07ha and Dac
Lua commune (Tan Phu District) with the area of 100ha, etc. As for the
industrial-scale exploitation, there are 44 mines of mineral resources with a
total area of 1,758.39ha. As scheduled, the project of adjusting mineral
planning will be submitted to the provincial People’s Council at the next
meeting.
In
order to protect mineral resources in the long term, it is urgent to have
suitable policy of mineral exploitation and methods of environmental protection
in exploitation areas. Vice Chairman of Dong Nai People’s Committee Ao Van Thinh
said that the fast economic growth in such key areas as Binh Duong province and
Ho Chi Minh city is now attracting a large number of building materials, thus if
Dong Nai province does not have suitable strategy for mineral exploitation
planning in future, it will not keep enough natural resources to serve the
social development.
