On the morning of June 14, Dong Nai Red Cross held a ceremony to launch the campaign themed “Droplets of Red Blood” for summer in 2010. Accordingly, this year, the goal is that the province will encourage over 8,500 volunteers for donor’s blood in which at least 4,800 voluntary blood donors join the campaign in this summer.

Mr. Nguyen Dem,
Director of Department of Internal Affairs is launching the campaign |
As reported by the Provincial
Steering Committee of Voluntary Blood Donation, the annual number of people
donating blood in the province rapidly increased with 3,038 units of blood
collected in 2004 to 14,568 units in 2009, partly helping to create favorable
conditions for improvements in first aid and treatment in hospitals. However,
humanitarian donor’s blood source has not been able to meet regular demand;
serious lack of blood usually occurs during summer when teachers and students –
a large force of regular donor’s blood volunteers – are on vacation.
Addressing the ceremony, Mr.
Nguyen Dem, Director of Internal Affairs Department notes that the campaign is
widely launched across the province from May 5, 2010 to September 2, 2010 in
order to call the collaboration of all levels of organs and agencies to promote
the campaign of voluntary donor’s blood, settling serious issues relating to
blood shortage during summer holiday, partly contributing to taking life and joy
back to thousands of patients who are in need of blood.
