More Than 49,500 Pregnant Women Get HIV Counseling and Testing Before Giving Birth

According to statistics by Dong Nai Center for HIV/AIDS Prevention and Control, for two years of implementing the Program of Preventing Mother-to-Child HIV Transmission (PMTCT) in Dong Nai, the awareness of people, especially pregnant women, on the need and importance of HIV testing has been raised, thus they are ready to get involved in PMTCT program to ensure the health of both mother and baby.
 By the end of 2010, the province had 57,550 women who were provided with antenatal care at the health facilities; 49,629 pregnant women took HIV counseling for testing before their giving birth; 25,484 pregnant women were voluntarily tested for HIV; 11,065 women pregnant women were tested for HIV during pregnancy, 14,128 pregnant women were tested for HIV during labor; 61 pregnant women were found HIV-positive, 72 pregnant women with their HIV-positive test results were treated via PMTCT. .
