Choro
ethnic group’s Long House |
The house is built to create space for Choro ethnic group’s cultural activities
and festivals. The construction of this project was started late 2008. The
project has a total area of nearly 4,000 m2, including a Long House of 209m2,
green trees, grass, a fountain and toilets. The project has a total construction
cost of nearly VND2.9 billion and its investor is the management board of the
Vinh Cuu Historic Monument and Nature Reserve. More than 100 file photos of
Choro ethnic group’s culture and customs, of 50 historical objects which have
been collected and restored and which are living, hunting and farming tools
including gongs, wine jars, back baskets, bows, rattan hammocks, sedge mats,
mortars and so on and of superstitious rituals like welcoming the rice god and
entering the new house are being displayed in the Long House

Addressing the inauguration ceremony, Vice chairwoman of the provincial People's
Committee – Huynh Thi Nga – said that building the Long House – a cultural
symbol of Choro ethnic group – along with developing economy and maintaining
cultural features of the ethnic communities who live in the province will
maintain and develop Choro traditional cultural features and create a rich and
diverse culture. Simultaneously, she added that it is necessary to develop
cultural strengths and make the Long House a tourist link with Vinh Cuu Historic
Monument and Nature Reserve and Cat Tien National Park.
On this occasion, the provincial leaders planted memorial trees at the Long
House. Chairman of the provincial People's Committee – Vo Van Mot – offered
Choro ethnic group in Phu Ly commune two sets of gongs, which will be displayed.
