Dong Nai continues to expand public passenger transport network

On September 17, 2009, Dong Nai Department of Transport held a working session on adjusting “the planning on developing bus network in Bien Hoa city, industrial zones and surroundings in the 2004-2010 period” in the current situation, as well as setting up “the planning on developing bus network in Dong Nai province and neighbor areas till 2020”. Accordingly, the public passenger transport network will continues to be expanded to the whole province. The event was presided by Vice Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee Tran Van Vinh.

Dong Nai Department of Transpot reported that the development of bus network in
industrial zones and tourist sites is an indispensable trend to solve traffic
jam, as well as to control and reduce traffic accidents, ensuring sustainable
development in urban areas. In reality, the pilot implemtation of the public
passenger transport network in Dong Nai province after 3 years gained such
remarkable results as: the number of routes has increased to 22 (2009) from 7
routes (2005), and the number of passengers has raised to 44,664 passengers/day
(2009) from 17,321 passengers/day. The number of vehicles has gradually
increased (both in quality and quantity). Based on these achievements, the
Department of Transport continues to make a plan to expand bus network in Dong
Nai province until 2020 and the vision after 2020. Accordingly, the planning
project will continue to be surveyed and added some new routes in Bien Hoa City,
Long Khanh Town, districts, some tourist sites and other key traffic centres.

Van Vinh asked Department of Transport and the consultant unit to quickly
complete the planning draft and submit it to the Provincial People’s Committee
by June, 2010, and the consultant unit should consider suitable cost and make a
qualified plan.
